Layout Assignment: The Profile (50 points)
Some Basic Requirements:
- Your
layout must follow a chosen magazine exactly! Every single detail must
be present and placed correctly. Use color, page numbers, dates, graphic
placement, etc. Everything is a copy! You are a parrot! You can not think
for yourself (yet). You work for this magazine and if it’s not perfect,
you will be FIRED!!!! Your final
product should resemble a page from your magazine as closely as possible. Assume
there are no other articles on your page for our purposes.
- Hand
in the magazine pages with your final layout.
- The
ENTIRE 1000 revised profile is present. Be ever so careful that
no words are cut off.
- Most
likely, your font will print between 9-11. Print
a sample as you start to make sure it looks like your magazine.
- Match
your fonts.
- If
your magazine is larger than our paper you can: “shrink” page to fit, use
longer paper, or use a part of the page to emulate (not recommended for
this exercise).
- ABSOLUTELY
NO WHITE SPACE that is not designated on your original pages. Go beyond blue
“layout lines” on program = almost to the end of the page. If you find
yourself with white space, write more, use more photos, use graphics – do whatever
it would take to allow you to keep your job.
- Use
the same exact layout with graphics as your magazine; try to use two
photos: one old & one new (before and today). Try to stick with the
glue.
- Most
magazines use captions under the photos, and the caption that fits
directly, exactly under photo; bold or smaller font unless your magazine
does it differently.
- Photos
are placed in a visually appealing manner. Note the layout on your model.
- THERE
IS ABSOLUTELY NO WHITE SPACE except for what your magazine calls for!
- A sub
headline (tells more of the story); even if your magazine does not use
one, please incorporate one. Your headline is a general title; the subheadline is your thesis/glue.
- Even
if your magazine omits a byline, please make sure you have one.
- ABSOLUTLEY
NO WHITE SPACE (white space is the devil) except for what your magazine
calls for!
- Uses
columns! Your magazine did! Make sure they match in number and width.
